Records Support Branch

The Records Support Branch  provides Navy service record and mainframe automated record support services.  Services are provided to active duty, discharged, retired Navy service members and their families, personnel offices, other Department of Defense, state, federal and local agencies, and members of the general public.

Military Personnel Records

The Records Management & Policy Section is responsible for policy and maintenance of the Navy’s Official Military Personnel File (OMPF).  This includes documents stored in the Electronic Military Personnel Record System (EMPRS), and the Field Service Record Jackets maintained at the unit.

How To Request Military Service Records or Prove Military Service
Military personnel records can be used for proving military service, or as a valuable tool
in genealogical research. Most veterans and their next-of-kin can obtain free copies of
their DD Form 214 (Report of Separation) and other military and medical records several
ways.

Ordering and Reviewing Your OMPF
It is never to early to order a copy of your OMPF, however, begin at least 6 months before
you are eligible for Selection Board review..

other processes for Command Use Only.

National Personnel Records Center (NPRC)
The repository of millions of military personnel, health, and medical records of discharged
and deceased veterans of all services during the 20th century. NPRC (MPR) also stores
medical treatment records of retirees from all services, as well as records for dependent
and other persons treated at naval medical facilities. Information from the records is made
available upon written request (with signature and date) to the extent allowed by law.
